Artist Overview
YonkersTom the Artist believes that sports, music, and pop culture are the modern mythology of our time. His philosophy is about turning nostalgia into living art. Instead of keeping collectibles like sports cards trapped in binders, Tom transforms them into paintings, layered mixed-media pieces and sculptural works that bring those moments back to life. Each piece is meant to feel like opening a fresh pack of cards, hearing a classic track again or remembering a legendary play.
creative process
The creative process of YonkersTom the Artist starts with nostalgia. Growing up in Yonkers, inspiration came from everywhere. Sports cards being flipped on playground benches, music blasting from boomboxes, graffiti on city walls and late-night highlights of sports legends.
Tom begins each piece by reconnecting with that feeling. A legendary athlete, a classic card design, or a pop-culture moment sparks the idea. From there, he sketches concepts and starts layering elements like paint, textures, handcrafted cards and mixed media that builds depth and energy.
The process is hands-on and experimental. Cards become part of the canvas, frames turn into storytelling devices and colors bring back the excitement of the 90s era of sports and culture. Every layer adds another piece of the story.
By the time a piece is finished, it’s more than artwork. It’s a time capsule of memories, capturing the thrill of collecting, the energy of the playground and the icons that defined a generation.
For Yonkers Tom, creating art is about one thing:
bringing the feeling of the past back to life in a bold, modern way.
